My name is Lawrence Altaffer and I live in Richmond, Virginia.

I’m from Virginia but I’ve lived in LA and DC too. I love to build things. Really anything. I thoroughly enjoy the entire creation process and strive for perfection with every product I make, which is one reason why this site has taken me far too long to launch (for the 12th time).

I currently work for Capital One as the Head of Identity Services Research & Design. I am a Director on the Digital Design team. I lead a team of 12 and we focus our efforts on Identity and Authentication products. I have loved building this team. The amount of talent I get to work with is incredible. In my position I am responsible for the creative direction, design strategy, budget, planning, and talent management. Our team consists of researchers, designers, and managers collaborating on new identity verification and authentication tools and products. If you’d like to learn more about my work there please contact me as most of it is under a NDA.

Way back in 2004 I started a small design company in Richmond, VA – Catpoint Studios. The following year I was pulled to Washington, D.C. to help D.A.T.A. (debt aids trade Africa) and The ONE Campaign as their only in-house designer and web developer. With D.A.T.A. and ONE I helped manage all of the U.S. web content for the Live 8 one day global concert series. A year later we would help start and launch Product (RED), all the while shaping and creating global initiatives to end poverty around the world. While working in the non-profit world I signed on to help Los Angeles based production company Live Planet and designed and built the website for their documentary “Running the Sahara“. In 2007 I moved to Los Angeles and began working as a freelance designer and developer. My clients included mobile game companies, SEO specialists, film production companies, regional and global nonprofit, private education organizations, fund raising events, national beverage providers, actors, directors, and one high-end digital camera company. Then I answered a want ad for a job at Saatchi & Saatchi LA.

I worked for Saatchi & Saatchi LA with Toyota as their main client for 6 years. With them I worked on at least one campaign launch for every vehicle Toyota sells in the U.S. I helped bring the world the very successful Sienna campaign “Meet the Parents” and “Swagger Wagon”. One of my favorites was the Ideas for Good campaign. It was a fast and furious schedule and the team was amazing. The concept of giving the average person Toyota technology and seeing what they could come up with was inspiring.

You can find me in all the usual spots.
